Vice President engages council administrators

In order to ensure effective leadership in local councils across Sierra Leone, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and officials of the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs (MLGCA) have engaged the Chief Administrators of the 22 Local Councils on their operations.

He urged them to step up on service delivery in their respective communities until Mayors, chairpersons, and councilors are elected.

Sierra Leone police chief calls for tolerance between his force and the media

The Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu has called for tolerance between the media and the police. He made the statement on the 28th of March 2023 at the closing session of a two-day training held for police officers and journalists.    

He advised both parties to tolerate each other and work for the development and interest of the nation.

Directly addressing the Police officers, he called on them to ensure they have a cordial relationship with the media.

Mohamed Rahman Swaray was speaking at Radisson Blu Hotel on Monday 27th March, where he launched Elections Reporting and Coverage regulations produced by the Independent Media Commission, IMC.

Sierra Leone to develop app for polling day reporting

Electoral Commissioner for Northern Region, Abubakarr Koroma  says the commission is developing a new app for use by polling centre managers during the elections.

SLAJ condemns Gento’s remarks on religion

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has expressed concern over a video that shows the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Mayoral aspirant, Mohamed Gento Kamara addressing Muslim worshippers at a Mosque in Freetown appealing for votes on a religious basis.

SLAJ in a press statement also condemned the leadership of the Basharia mosque for allowing a politician to use their place of worship to campaign on such grounds.
