Government of Sierra Leone, in partnership with Statistics Sierra Leone and some nongovernmental organisations, has launched a study based on assessment of the multi-sectorial impact of Ebola on gender dimensions in the country.

Government consultant pathologist and chief forensic scientist in Sierra Leone, Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma, is expected to testify in an alleged murder matter under preliminary investigations at Pademba Road Court No. 2.

The matter, before Magistrate Mohamed Seray-Wurie, involved a 21-year-old youth who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death in June over a mobile phone call she received whiles they were together.

Sierra Leone loses 20,000 tourists

Sierra Leone’s deputy minister of tourism has disclosed that the country lost over 20,000 foreign pleasure seekers between 2013 and 2014 due to the outbreak of the Ebola virus.

Kadie Sesay told a weekly journalists in Freetown that “in 2013 the tourist industry attracted 52, 226 tourists, and that number has reduced to 32, 223 this year.”

She said the reduction was amidst cancellation of many flights as there were only Air Maroc and Brussels Airlines actively operating in the country.
