Sierra Leone court remands "abusive” husband

By Mabinty M. Kamara

Philip Moigua, who is alleged to have on several occasions physically and psychologically abused his spouse Jennifer A. Musa in Moyamba and subsequently in Bo has on Thursdays 4th March remanded in custody after appearing at a Bo magistrate court on a three-count charge been charged of assault, domestic violence and psychological torture.

Police media officer in the south, Inspector Bobson Mohamed Senu told Politico both Moigua and his wife reported incidents to the police but that “the wife’s evidence overwhelmed the husband’s. Even the statements of some pastors implicated the man.”

The lab technician, 29, had gone on social media to complain that her husband of three years Philip Moigua has continuously battered her and subjected her to public molestation. She earlier told Politico that she had to request for official transfer from Moyamba to work in Bo where she rented an apartment just to stay away from her husband but that her abusive husband persistently visited her place to abuse her.

Ms. Musa said the latest incident pushed her to go on social media was when she reported an abuse to the Bo central police station upon which her husband also lodged a counter complaint at another Police station.

The husband Philip denied all the allegations of abuse levied against him by the wife, noting that he was a victim of abuse by the wife. He also accused Jenifer of having extramarital affairs and being disrespectful to his family.
