Western Area tops crime rate in Sierra Leone – Police report

The Sierra Leone Police Crime Statistics Report of 2023 has indicated that the Western Area tops the crime rate index of the country with a combined record of 18,988 (eighteen thousand, nine hundred and eighty-eight) cases-representing 62%.

The Regional Crime rate analysis was done to identify regions with the highest crime rate in Sierra Leone and it was discovered that the Western Area which comprised the capital and the rural district tops the chart.

“We need justice to be dispensed in time” – Bio urges new Judge

Addressing the newly appointed Supreme Court Judge Abdulai Masiyambay Bangura, President Julius Maada Bio has stressed the need for the judiciary to dispense justice in time.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the new judge on the 16th of February 2024, Bio said “As a developing nation, we need justice to be dispensed in time, as we all know justice delayed is justice denied. It is that arm of government that we all look forward to because the criticality of its job cannot be overemphasized”.

Treason indictments to be amended

Lead State Prosecutor, Ahmed J. M. Bockarie, has during the ongoing treason trial in Freetown, said the state would be amending almost all the indictments levied against Amadu Koita Makolo, Bai Mahmoud Bangura and 10 others.

The amendment includes changing the number of charges levied against each of the accused and adjusting of particulars of offence.

Modern health centre for Bo

As Engage Now Africa commences construction of a modern Health Centre in Bo City, Southern Sierra Leone the facility will include a Lab, two delivery rooms, and a standby ambulance for emergencies.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the commencement of the project on the 17th of February 2024, the Country Director of Engage Now Africa, Ibrahim Jalloh explained that when the health facility is completed, the government will provide health workers, whilst his organization will give stipends to the staff.
