Eastern Polytechnic gets support

Eastern Polytechnic based in Kenema on Friday 26 February 2021 received a consignment of learning and teaching materials from the Concordia University of Edmonton at a ceremony held at the Ahmed Tejan Kabbah Hall.

The consignments, according to the college’s Public Relations unit include modernised computers and advanced text books for several disciplines, a gesture said to have been pioneered and facilitated by a chemist, Dr. Alfred Morie Saffa.

New national policy on cooperative societies validated

Stakeholders in the cooperative sector on Friday 22nd February 2021 ended a two-day validation workshop for the first policy on Cooperative Societies in Sierra Leone.

The workshop, which was held at the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s Conference Hall at Youyi Building in Freetown, was attended by members of the various cooperative societies across the country, among officials of the ministry and other development agencies with interest in the sector.

Man Convicted for $ 10 bribe

The High Court in Bo presided over by Justice A. T Ganda has convicted Bocakrie Sheku Mattia, Supervisor on Contract with Statistics Sierra Leone’s Bo office on a charge of soliciting an advantage, contrary to law.

Delivering his judgment on 25th February 2021, Justice Ganda ordered Mattia to pay a fine of fifty million Leones (Le 50,000,000) within one month effective from the date of the judgment or serve a five-year jail term.

Fire Disaster Sends Primary School to Two-shift System

A recent fire outbreak along Bai Bureh Road, in Rokupa East of Freetown, has forced the management of Cecilia Memorial Preparatory School to revert to a two-shift system in a bid to accommodate all the pupils in the classrooms not affected by the disaster.

The school authorities say this was the only way out considering the fact that class six pupils are preparing to take the National Primary School Examination in two months.

Statistics Sierra Leone ends cartographic mappers training

Principal Statistician in the Western Area, Ibrahim Sannoh said the up-coming Mid-term Population and Housing Census (MTPHS) has nothing to do with politics and is only intended to produce data for national consumption.
