The Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC) has on Thursday 4th March 2021 engaged stakeholders at a Needs Assessment Result Sharing and Training of Trainers held in Makeni, as part of the work of the consultant of a RAIC/World Bank project titled: RAIC Needs Assessment in Proactive Disclosure of Information.

Sierra Leone receives AstraZeneca vaccine on Monday under COVAX arrangement

Sierra Leone is to receive another consignment of vaccines, this time the AstraZeneca (AZ), which was originally invented at Oxford University in the UK. 90,000 doses of the drug licensed and manufactured by Serum Institute of India are expected to arrive in Freetown on Monday 8 March 2021. 

A statement from COVAX Facility says the first round of distribution involves 237 million doses of the AZ/Oxford vaccines to some 140 countries around the world.

15 minors arrested for alleged cultism

Police in the Eastern Region town of Daru, Jawai chiefdom in Kailahun district have on the 1st March 2021 arrested 15 young people at the palm tree farm during an initiation ceremony for new members into their cult.

The Local Unit Commander (LUC) Daru Division Chief Superintendent of Police Sheku B. Kamara told Politico that the police got intelligent that there was a group of people gathered in the bush at one of the palm tree plantations performing some illegal ceremony at night.

No. 2 River murder trial opens in Sierra Leone

The trial of Alpha Yayah Kanu alias Y2K and nine others for the alleged murder of Mohamed Kallon alias Mende Boy has started with Justice Ansumana Ivan Sesay presiding with a 12-member jury at the High Court in Freetown.

In his opening address to the jurors on Thursday 4th March 2021, lead State Counsel Jesse S. Tucker said that the accused persons facing a three count indictment of conspiracy to murder, murder and burying a human body in a place other than a cemetery for which they had entered a not-guilty plea.

Sierra Leone: Police officer laments over poor living conditions

The officer in charge of Faama Police post in Nomo chiefdom, Kenema district eastern Sierra Leone, Inspector Alusine S. Bangura has expressed dismay over the physical condition of his post.

In a recent interview with Politico Inspector Bangura described the post “deplorable and that with no lodging facilities for officers they have resorted to using the post as a dwelling place and there is no holding cell to detain suspects even when a felonious offence is committed.

Maritime Executive Director released on bail

The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration, SLMA Paul S. Massaquoi was released on bail by the Anti-corruption Commission yesterday 4th March, 2021 after he was questioned and detained on Wednesday for alleged procurement irregularities.
