The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police, eastern region Thomas Mustapha Lahai has on the 9th March 2021 held a meeting with his Local Unit Commanders (LUC), operations officers, and other departmental heads in the six police divisions in the east at his regional headquarter office in Kenema.
Addressing the officers on their roles and responsibilities as commanders in the various divisions, the Assistant Inspector General of police expressed delight over the performance of the commanders in maintaining order within their operational areas since the start of this year. “Though there are numerous challenges along the line but keep up the spirit in doing professional jobs as officers. I stand to be grateful to you all as commanders with other departmental heads in maintaining synergy on the security situations within your divisions,” he said.
The AIG east stated that it is only by providing good leadership to the personnel that will enable a commander to succeed in mitigating any security matters and that the public will only entrust their confidence in the commander when the officers are prepared and determined to give their fullest support to their boss.
He told the commanders that listening to and seeking the welfare of their junior colleagues will help them achieve their goals rather than just giving them commands on duties to execute.
The AIG East added that, for police officers to be responsible and professional in executing their duties, it has a lot to do with the leadership in terms of personal relationship with personnel by guiding and protecting those at the most challenging periods.
He warned them to be steadfast in the fight against crime, especially armed robbery, noting that the IGP Ambrose Michael Sovula has warned all AIG’s that they will be transferred unnoticed in case of any incident of arm robbery and that he was now passing that on to Local Unit Commanders.
AIG Lahai encouraged the commanders to leave a good legacy within the SLP when they shall have retired from active service as commanders and to be prepared for private life.
In his statement, the Local Unit Commander for Kailahun district, Sao Vandi commended the AIG for his leadership, especially in guiding and directing them on how to serve the nation diligently.
The Kailahun commander used the occasion to update the AIG on the joint border patrol with Guinea alongside the army and assured him of their commitment to serve the country diligently at all time.
