The Head Teacher of the Kissy Junior Municipal Primary School, Amelia Morgan, has called on government to establish libraries to other communities within the country as a way of improving reading ability among school pupils.

Bio promises to develop Karene

President Julius Maada Bio has assured the people of Karene District, in the Northern Province of the country that his government would do major road constructions in the district and replace two broken ferries out of the five in the district. 

The President made this statement during a one-day tour of the district over the weekend as part of his inclusive approach to governance.

Eastern polytech gains university status

The Registrar of Eastern Polytechnic, John Juana has disclosed that the government has approved the institute to attain the status of a technical university subject to the approval of Parliament.

The registrar made this statement during the institute’s annual matriculation ceremony for newly enrolled students over the weekend in the district headquarter town of Kenema.

Sierra Leone commits to ECOWAS single currency.

President Julius Maada Bio has said that Sierra Leone is committed to attainment of the single currency for the ECOWAS Community of nations.

He made this statement on Monday 29th May 2021 on the first day of the second session of the ECOWAS Parliament Extra Ordinary Session held at the Freetown International Conference Centre.

Telecom service must be inclusive- NATCOM Chairman

The Chairman of the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) Joe Blell has described the Consumer Parliament as a platform for an interactive session involving telecommunications service providers and consumers which deserves much needed attention. Blell who was addressing the sixth Consumer Parliament held in Bo on Friday 26 March 2021 said telecommunications should reach all including people living in the rural areas of Sierra Leone.

MUNAFA Fund payments commence

People involved in small businesses have started receiving cash and cheques from the MUNAFA Fund that is managed by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDA). The issuing out of the funds started last Thursday 25 March 2021 and continued over the weekend in all the sixteen districts of the country. Two hundred people have so far received five and ten million leones each in the initial presentations that were done in the different towns and cities.

Community stakeholders discuss teenage pregnancy

Compromise at the community level remains a major fueling factor of teenage pregnancy in Sierra Leone, local authorities and politicians say.

The disclosure was made last week during the just concluded Community Stakeholders’ Dialogue Meeting on Commitments to Help Reduce Teenage Pregnancy and Early Marriage’ in Sierra Leone. The dialogue session was convened by FOCUS 1000, one of three implementing partners of the Health Systems and Services Strengthening Porgramme, known by its French acronym PROSSAN.
