Sierra Leone to vet recruitment agencies

Agencies engaged in the recruitment of Sierra Leoneans wishing to seek employment abroad have been ordered by the Ministry of Labour to involve the office in every stage of the recruitment process including vetting and the signing of overseas recruitment contracts.

The latest statement from the Labour Ministry came in the wake of the government’s lifting of the ban on the recruitment of migrants by agencies believed to be operating in the country, often clandestinely.

Sierra Leone’s human rights record under the spotlight

The United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group for the third time on Wednesday, 12 May 2021 will review Sierra Leone’s Human Rights Record in a meeting that will be webcast live.

Sierra Leone is one of 14 States to be reviewed by the UPR Working Group during the ongoing 38th session from 3rd to 14 May 2021. Sierra Leone’s first and second UPR reviews took place in May 2011 and January 2016, respectively.

ECOBANK Sierra Leone boss bags national award

The Gambian Managing Director of ECOBANK Sierra Leone, Lucretia Aina Moore was one of the recipients of the 2021 Independence Day awards by President Julius Maada Bio. 

She was awarded the Grand Officer of the Order of the Rokel (GOOR), one of the country’s highest honours.

The citation points out “her outstanding service in the field of banking”.

FIFA Boss arrives in Sierra Leone this week

Following announcement by SLFA, the football family in Sierra Leone will tomorrow receive the most powerful person in world football in the person of Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA. The statement says Infantino will be accompanied by the recently elected President of CAF Dr. Patrice Motsepe during a one day visit to Sierra Leone on Wednesday 5 May 2021.
