Sierra Leone's president receives NEC Strategic Plan

The Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, (NEC), Mohamed Konneh has presented his institution’s annual report for 2020 and strategic plan for 2020–2024 to President Julius Maada Bio, citing reforms that have taken place in recent times. 

The Commissioner said that the 2020 report reflected a significant milestone in the evolution of NEC because it provided not only an outlook of the year under review but also created a bridge between the 2015-2019 and the 2020–2024 electoral cycle.  

Rural electrification drive reaches Jojoima, eastern Sierraa Leone

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay has over the last weekend launched the electrification project of Jojoima in Kailahun district and Boajibu in Kenema district. 

Speaking at the event on Saturday 5th June, the Minister said he has the responsibility of providing electricity for not just the big cities but smaller communities like the two.

Kossoh Town residents call for action over deplorable road network

Residents, pedestrians, bike riders, and vehicle owners have raised concerns over the deplorable state of the Kossoh Town road that leads to Hastings village. This road is amongst a list of roads that were supposed to be constructed by Gento Group of Companies.

According to the information on a government billboard erected along  the main point of entry to the Kossoh Town community, the construction of all the roads that are indicated on the billboard, which includes Kossoh Town were to start December 2020 and finish June 2021.

Hajjgate case closed in Sierra Leone

The infamous Hajjgate case involving individuals in the persons of Former Vice-President Victor Bockarie Foh, Sheka Sahid Kamara, Minkailu Mansaray, Mohamed Alie Bah, Ibrahim Fackeh Conteh and Abubakarr Carew has on the 7th June 2021 closed hearing from both defense and prosecuting counsels.

All of the accused persons have a case to answer except for Mohamed Alie Bah and Minkailu Mansaray who have earlier been discharged by the court.

NaCOVERC responds to media allegations

The National COVID-19 Emergency Response Centre (NaCOVERC) has on the 7th June 2021 issued a press release in reaction to an article published by the Africanist Press titled “Hidden COVID Funds”.

According to NaCOVERC what is been stated on the article published by the Africanist Press on the 7th June 2021 is “a wrong characterization” of the institution; the release went further to say that NACOVERC is “guided by the hallmark of legitimacy, transparency and accountability”.
