Three men are in Police custody in Falaba , suspected of gang raping a 20 year-old lactating mother. The incident happened on 1 June 2021 in Kombili village in the Morifindugu Chiefdom.
The victim said she was in the village to attend a meeting, a short distance from her family’s cattle ranch . She said in the night she went to a makeshift toilet, leaving her baby inside the house. She said 5 men confronted her at the entrance to the toilet, who then dragged her to a nearby bush where they took turns to rape her.
She explained how the men then took her to another bush location and again repeatedly raped her. Her ordeal was not to end; she was again taken to a forest and sexually assaulted there also. They tore off her clothes, gagged her mouth and threatened to kill her. The victim said at that point she went into a coma. She was later discovered by her uncle Alpha Umaru Shaw. The man grew curious after he went to where the baby was crying with the mother nowhere to be seen. He said as he went in search of his niece, he saw a clearing nearby the toilet bearing the hallmarks of a struggle. Shaw found one of the suspects in the dark who told him he was looking for his shoes. And as he continued his search another man crossed him wearing a woman’s flip flop on one foot and a man’s shoes on the other. He became apprehensive and as he continued walking he found the young mother in coma with bloodstains.
The victim was then taken for treatment and the matter reported to the Police. Shaw was able to identify the men he encountered that night. Three were arrested whilst the other two are on the run.
The victim's husband Chernor Amadu Bah told Politico that since they reported the matter to the Police no charges have been brought against the three men , Sulaiman Samura, Kalie Koroma and Kamara. Police Family Support Head, Solomon Sesay at Mongo Police station has refused all attempts to have him interviewed by Politico.
