One of the recommendations made in the National Electoral Watch’s (NEW) 2023 Electoral Cycle Report is for Government to ensure a credible housing census is conducted in 2025.

Judiciary wants Jury system removed

A Bill entitled “The Criminal Procedure Act, 2024” has proposed that the number of jurors be reduced to ten (10) but that a case can proceed with eight (8) jurors.

However, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Mohamed Lamin Tarawalley has called on Members of Parliament to ensure the juror system is removed, saying it has not been a blessing to the country.

Treason trial: Joint force commander sustained complicated blast injuries – medic

Lieutenant- Colonel Dr. Paul Fallah Nabieu attached to the 34 military hospital as surgeon consultant, has testified at the ongoing treason trial in connection to the November 26th failed coup during which Joint Force Commander, Major-General Dauda Fred Alpha sustained complicated blast injuries.

The prosecution’s additional witness, Lieutenant Nabieu told this to the court on Wednesday 17th April 2024 in Freetown.

FoRUT, SLYDCL form alliance to fight drugs

Foundation for Rural and Urban Transformation (FoRUT) in tandem with Social Linkages for Youth Development and Child Link (SLYDCL) has formed a coalition with other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to fight drug abuse in the country.

In an interview with the Executive Director of FoRUT Sierra Leone Boi-Jenneh Jalloh after a meeting held by the coalition to brainstorm the way forward, she said they decided to put together different CSOs to provide a platform to learn and share ideas in tackling the menace.

Fire displaces UniMak female students

A fire outbreak that swept through the female hostel at the University of Makeni(UniMak), Yoni campus on Monday 15th April destroyed the twenty-one room building leaving the students displaced , according to the University’s Public Relations Directorate, Shebora Smaba Kamara.
