UNDP to support 200 women with $ 2.7 million

The UNDP is set to support 200 women-owned or led very small enterprises and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) whose income has increased with a total budget of 2.7 million United States Dollars.

The fund will be disbursed through the Empowering West African Women Small and Medium Enterprises (EWASME) Project and is set to create 2,000 (two thousand) direct jobs and 10,000 (ten thousand) indirect jobs.

Several interceptions of illicit cargoes in Sierra Leone – ONS boss

The National Security Coordinator of the Office of National Security (ONS), Abdulai Caulker has disclosed that they have made several interventions against illicit cargoes at the Queen Elizabeth Quay, which he noted is due to them deploying their personnel at the quay and collaboration with their international partners.

Caulker made this disclosure at the government’s weekly press briefing on 9th April this year at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conference room.  

Africa tops inequality ranking-report says

A World Bank report has indicated that Sub-Saharan Africa remains one of the highest in the world in inequality, second only to the Latin America and the Caribbean, as measured by the region’s average Gini coefficient.

The report issued via a press release last week pointed out that access to basic services, such as schooling or healthcare, remains highly unequal despite recent improvements. It stated that disparities also exist in access to markets and income-generating activities, irrespective of people’s skills.

Court Martial: Prison yard CCTV footage tendered

Footage from one of the Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed at the main entrance to the Pademba Road Correctional Centre tendered at the ongoing court martial on Friday 12th April, 2024 captured the scene of a military vehicle being used to repeatedly crash into gate of the main prison with the intention to force it open between 08:.00 and 08:34 on 26th November, 2023.

The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Bio has encouraged 40 former addicts of the drug Kush that have gone through rehabilitation, not to  go back to their old ways, and to instead serve  in the fight against the harmful substance.

Mexican Ambassador to Ghana engages Sierra Leone High Commissioner

 The new Ambassador of Mexico to Sierra Leone, who is resident in Ghana, Ms. Norma Ang, on Friday 12 April, paid a courtesy visit to High Commissioner Francess Virginia Anderson.

The visit at the Chancery saw the discussions of how both heads of mission will continue deepening the already bilateral ties existing between Sierra Leone and Mexico with both countries open to collaboration and networking.
