Skye Bank manslaughter case: Second PW testifies

The second prosecution witness, Mustapha Conteh, in the ongoing manslaughter trial involving the then Managing Director of Skye Bank in Sierra Leone, Ikubolaje Nicol over the alleged killing of his junior staff, Ms. Sinnah Kai Kargbo, has testified that he saw the deceased in the bathroom, trembling and biting her tongue.

YSC violence: Ali Jaffa remanded

A magistrate in Freetown has remanded popular businessman Ali Jaffa in custody for alleged unlawful possession of arms. The 50-year-old businessman appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Friday 26th April, 2024.

Jaffa faces six counts ranging from being found in possession of ammunition without license and having control of small arms without license, unlawful concealment of small arms, keeping a greater number of small arms without license and among others.

ILO boosts Kenema Council with 3 compactors machines

In order to support local councils for feeder roads construction and rehabilitation to enhance Feed Salone Programme, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has handed over three compactor machines worth millions of Leones to Kenema District Council.

The machines were meant for local contractors that are on roads rehabilitation and construction in the district.

PWD youths join gov’t in Kush fight

The PWD Area Youth Development Organisation East of Freetown, has at a press conference, expressed its commitment to help government beat the abuse of deadly narcotic substances like Kush and other harmful drugs common among youths. 

The Secretary General of the youth group, Mohamed Badamasi Cole said they are disturbed and concerned over the growing menace of the synthetic drug known as kush, and as an organisation they have made it their priority to tackle it. 

Transport ministry to improve revenue generation

As part of his commitment, Minister of Transport and Aviation (MTA), Alhaji Fanday Turay after signing his performance contract, promised to improve domestic revenue generation for the ministry and its agencies to the tune of 1.5 million dollars and ensure compliance with budgetary level and its regulations by 85%.

Sierra Leone rolls out malaria vaccine

Sierra Leone on Thursday 25th April observed World Malaria Day which also saw the roll-out of the National Malaria Vaccine campaign at State House in Freetown.

The nationwide malaria campaign will see the distribution of nearly 5.4 million special Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) using a digitized registration system. With $5.3 million from the Global Fund, UNICEF, WHO, and other partners are supporting the Ministry of Health in this effort.
