Parliament calls on police and judiciary to implement rules

Presenting pictures of swollen limbs infested with dreadful sores, corpses, and zombie-looking youths, euphoria of willingness to fight the scourge filled the well of parliament as members of parliament unanimously approved the Drug and Substance Abuse Public Emergency Response Regulations 2024, and called on the police, judiciary, task force, and other stakeholders to be stringent in their implementation.  

P’ment Committee on Environment inspects J M Gold Mining Site

Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Environment, and other stakeholders have inspected the proposed mining site of J.M Gold Company at Bambawo community, Kenema.

 The trip was to identify issues raised by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) regarding allegations of destroying the reserve Kambui forest.

Barred WASSCE candidates want portal re-opened

Sitting on the ground or leaning against nearby trees outside the Sierra Leone Parliament, dozens of pupils who have been exempted from taking the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have called on the government and all other stakeholders to hear their cry and ensure they take the examination.

UN Women calls for a safer Sierra Leone

At the end of a two-day Regional Consultations with Traditional and Faith Leaders on the 18th of April 2024 in Freetown, the organization UN Women has urged Sierra Leonean Religious and Cultural Leaders to Collaborate with the Government, UN Agencies, International Partners, Civil Society Organizations, and the corporate sector to establish a safer Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone Foreign Minister bemoans disputed border town with Guinea

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Timothy Musa Kabba  says “Guinea has not been acting in good faith’’ regarding the disputed border village of Yenga in the Kailahun district, east of Sierra Leone.

The minister was speaking at the weekly Government Press briefing in Freetown on 16th April.

“The President is not ready to tolerate the continuance of the Guinean forces inside Sierra Leonean territory,” he stated and cited the occupation by the Guinean army as an act of aggression and intrusion.
