Parliament to scrutinize EPA act

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has committed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Act of 2021 to the legislative committee for proper scrutiny after the second reading and debate.

The amendment of the 2010 EPA Act now moves the agency from the Office of the President to the Ministry of Environment. It also seeks to involve the local authorities in the protection of environment as well as increase the fines for defaulters.

NASSIT provides over Le 500 million for NDMA

The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) and its staff have donated  over 500 million Leones to the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) as support in helping victims of 5 November fuel tanker fire at PMB Junction, Wellington in Freetown.

Director-General of NASSIT, Mohamed Fuaad Daboh presented the two cheques to Retired Lieutenant-General Brima Sesay, Director-General of NDMA on Tuesday 16th November this year at Aberdeen in Freetown.

8 bike riders remanded

Magistrate Mark Ngegba has sent eight commercial bike riders on remand at the Correctional Centre in Freetown for riotous conduct on Friday 26th November this year.

The eight accused men were brought to court on five count charges which included conspiracy, riotous conduct, assaulting conduct, intimidation and throwing missiles.
