Optimism surrounds Sierra Leone's mining sector- Mines Minister

Mines and Mineral Resources Minister Timothy Kabba has given an optimistic picture of Sierra Leone’s mining sector whilst presenting his scorecard to journalists and civil society activists at a retreat in Bo last weekend.  The minister presented a picture of huge potentials for mineral deposits in the country as captured in the Airborne Geophysical   Survey that was financed by the government.  He said the geo-data assembled provides a promising future for the country’s mines.

Sierra Leone (re)constructs 200 km of roads in 2021

The Minister of Works and Public Assets, Peter Bayuku Conteh has put at 200 Kilometres the asphalt roads constructed for the year 2021. The minister made the disclosure whilst highlighting the ministry’s achievements so far, its challenges and plans, during the retreat for media and civil society organisations that took place in Bo over the weekend. 

Sierra Leone to audit lifestyle of public officials

The Director Public Outreach Education and Outreach, Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC), Patrick Sandi has revealed plans of the commission to include lifestyle-auditing in its fight against graft. He made the revelation in Bo during a presentation to Journalists and Civil Society Activists who had gathered for a two day engagement in which representatives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) highlighted achievements and reviewed plans that matched the government’s manifesto and it’s Medium Term National Development Plan.

Bumpeh Bridge to be featured in Hollywood movie

The Bumpeh Bridge has been cited by Hollywood producers as a prospective site to shoot a movie titled, “The Bridge to Kono”. Hollywood Producers Ariel Leon and Michael Duff paid a courtesy visit to President Julius Maada Bio to express the prospects of using locations in Freetown, Bo and other parts of Sierra Leone by next year for their movie.

Sierra Leone braces-up for new COVID-19 Variant

The Risk Communication Pillar Lead National Coronavirus Response Centre (NaCOVERC), Harold Thomas has assured of the country’s strides to guard against the newly discovered COVID-19 variant called Omicron.

 The new mutation, which according to experts is potentially more transmissible, was first discovered in South Africa and has since been detected in several countries.
