Sierra Leone’s Vice President Interfaces with Ghana’s Energy Minister

 Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr.Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh together with the Minister of Energy in Sierra Leone, Kanja Sesay has on the 7th December 2021 held discussions with the Energy Minister in Ghana on experience sharing within the energy sector in Ghana.

The bilateral meeting is geared towards transferring huge knowledge and creating huge positive impacts in order to transform Sierra Leone’s energy sector.

Sierra Leone parliament ratifies Miro Forestry agreement

The parliament of Sierra Leone has on Thursday, 09th December 2021 approved the agreement between the government of Sierra Leone and the Miro Forestry Sierra Leone Limited for tree planting and manufacturing of its produce in the country.

According to the minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Edward Hinga Sandy, the company will be planting one to two million trees per year, and that the company will also be using the product to make a wide range of products that include electric poles, plywoods, and among others furniture.

Court to rule on the legality of APC NAC

The High Court in Freetown is set to rule on the legality of the All People’s Congress (APC) National Advisory Committee’s (NAC) decision bordering on selections made in the running up to the 2018 elections.

This development took place on Wednesday 8th December 2021 when Jesse Jengo, the lawyer representing APC Diaspora member Alfred Peter Conteh, said NAC’s selection decision in 2017 was illegal since it is against the party’s 1995 Constitution.

Elder brother gets life imprisonment for killing

Justice Ivan Sesay has sentenced Abibola Lionel Jones, 38, to life imprisonment for killing his younger brother Sholade Jones, 26, at Hastings in Western Area Rural District.

The judge sentenced Abibola on Thursday 9th of December 2021 at the High Court in Freetown.

According to Ekundayo Williams, a gardener who was present at the crime scene and first prosecution witness, he saw the senior brother chase his younger brother with a stick and hit him on the neck.

Phase II Fibre Connectivity reaches 90%

Work on Phase Two of the fibre connectivity project along designated routes has reached 90 percent, nearing completion, according to the Director in the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), Muminnie Jalloh. He gave the statistics in a presentation at the Media/Civil Society Retreat in Bo, which was organised by MIC for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to present their scorecard in line with the government’s manifesto and the Mid Term National Development Plan. 

All set for Audit Service tribunal

The three members of a tribunal appointed by President Julius Maada Bio to investigate the activities of the leadership of the Audit Service took their oath at State House on Monday 6 December. 

Led by the retired Supreme Court Justice Nyawo Finda Matturi-Jones, they are mandated to do indepth investigations into the conduct of the Auditor General Lara Taylor-Pearce and her Deputy-Tamba Momoh on allegations of misconduct which led to their indefinite suspension from office.
