Husband defends wife over $500 thousand theft

The husband of Randa Skeiky, Bassam Skeiky has testified for his wife at the High Court in Freetown over a missing five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000).

Bassam told Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens on the 8th December 2021 that his wife told him she was innocent of the accusations.

He said he could not recall the date he returned to Freetown only to hear of an alarm from the complainant, Ali Abess that the said money had gone missing at the house where his wife was.

Africa accounts for 96% of world malaria deaths - says WHO 2021 report

A report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) states that out of a total of 627,000 deaths caused by malaria worldwide in 2020, Sub Saharan Africa countries accounted for 96 percent.

It noted 80 percent of the deaths in the region were those of children under the age of five.

Total malaria cases rose from 227 million in 2019 to 241 million in 2020, of which Sub Saharan Countries had  95 percent, representing about 14 million more cases in 2020 compared to 2019, and 69, 000 more deaths.

Soldier remanded for murder

Justice Adrian Fisher has remanded in prison a Lance Corporal of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Sahr Daramy on allegations of murder.

The Soldier was arraigned at the High Court in Freetown on Friday 10th December 2021 to answer to a one count of murder.

The particulars of offence state that Daramy on the 19th December 2020 killed Abubakarr Conteh in Freetown.

New Policy to aid pregnant women

In a bid to enable pregnant women access electricity, a company named We Care Solar (WCS) in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) formally launched the We Care Solar initiative on the 10th December 2021 at the Kimbima Hotel in Freetown.

Local Content links entrepreneurs with Global markets

In a bid to exhibit Sierra Leonean entrepreneurs to the world market, the Local Content Agency has ended a two-day Annual Trade fair exhibition in Freetown. At the event, the Director-General Fodeba Daboh reckoned that “the responsibility of the Agency is to create links for local suppliers and foreign direct investors which will strengthen the domestic private sector in Sierra Leone”.
