Chairperson of the University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospital Complex (USLTHC) Dr. Sonia Spencer has called for autonomy of the institution’s Board for better performance.
Speaking at a parliamentary sub-appropriation meeting yesterday, the medic said the board is not in total control of the six hospitals which form the teaching hospitals complex which contravenes what is stipulated in the Act that the board should take responsibility.

The World Bank has provided the Government of Sierra Leone with a grant of $50million to support a five -year digital transformation project following signing of a financial agreement in July 2022 and meeting the International Development Association requirement.
The Minister of Information and Communications Mohamed Rahman Swaray took to his twitter account to disclose this information after World Bank announced same.

In August 2017, a hillside on the outskirts of Freetown, Sierra Leone’s crowded capital city, collapsed causing a mudslide that killed more than 1,100 people and caused more than $14 million USD in damage. Mustapha Dumbuya, 40, lived in the Juba area very close to the catastrophe. He said, “I saw huge mansions and ‘pan-bodies’ (zinc and stick buildings) on the hill come sliding down. I had neighbours washed away in the rushing waters. I saw the land kicked off the hill by heavy rains and I’m lucky to be alive.”

Regional Advisor at UN Women, Soulef Guessoum says 30 percent of Sierra Leonean girls get married before the age of 18 (eighteen). She made this statement on Monday 12th December 2022 at an event organized to celebrate Human Rights Day.
Guessoum said that despite the strides made by government, women and girls continue to face series of human right challenges. She added that 60 percent women in Sierra Leone experience physical and sexual violence, whilst 86 percent undergo genital mutilation.

The Prosecution in the ongoing matter between the State and the Freetown Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has submitted a written a no- case in response to the defense’s own written no case submission in the matter.
On Monday December 12 at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, after Prosecutor Yusuf Isaac Sesay had submitted the document to the bench, Magistrate Mark Ngegba stated that he would give a ruling on the said submissions on the next adjourned date, 23rd December 2022.

As preliminary investigations continue into the murder case against Ikubolaje Nicol, former Managing Director of Skye Bank Sierra Leone at a Magistrate’s court in Freetown, the lead defense lawyer, Roland Wright Yesterday December 13, told the court that the search carried out on the property of the accused was illegal. He said this while cross-examining Detective Police officer Brima Amara Munu, attached to the Criminal Investigations unit of the Central Police Station in Freetown.
