World Bank Donates $50million

The World Bank has provided the Government of Sierra Leone with a grant of $50million to support a five -year digital transformation project following signing of a financial agreement in July 2022 and meeting the International Development Association requirement.

The Minister of Information and Communications Mohamed Rahman Swaray took to his twitter account to disclose this information after World Bank announced same.

He said that the purpose of this project is to support digital skills, enhance E-government and improve cyber security in the country. He recalled this has been the dream of President Julius Maada Bio to see that the country caught up with the fourth industrial revolution.

He also noted that in the president’s address at the State opening of the fifth session of the fifth parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone he spoke about enacting the Cyber Security and Crime Act, digital transformation project and the data protection bill that will soon be tabled in parliament for approval.

The president had explained that the enactment of the cyber security and crime bill is to address cyber-crimes and protect critical national information infrastructure and contribute to the timely and effective collection of electronic evidence for the purpose of investigation and prosecution of law breakers. The ministry of information and communications, will implement the grant to boost the  digital transformation of Sierra Leone.
