Over $ 6 million for water project

The Government of Sierra Leone with support from the Government of Iceland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UNICEF has launched a $ 6.4 million (six million, four hundred thousand US dollars) programme that will improve access to Climate Resilient Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Services.

The four years programme is geared towards Improving Livelihoods and Child-Friendly Environment in eight Rural Fishing Communities.

Traders cry foul over ‘Munafa’ fund

Traders in Kenema district Eastern Sierra Leone have expressed dissatisfaction over the disbursement of the ‘Munafa’ fund to business people in the district, describing the process as unfair.

The traders on the 6th February, 2023 stormed the office of Global Osusu and saving scheme, the institutions contracted to disburse the fund to business people in the district alleging that they were denied the fund despite their registration with Small Medium and Enterprise Development Agency (SMEDA).

Sierra Leone president mourns with Turkey over earthquakes

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has in letter empathises with the government and people of Turkey, following twin earthquakes that wreaked havoc in the country.

President Julius Maada Bio in the Letter addressed to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey stated Sierra Leone’s relationship with Turkey, saying that he strongly believed that with resilience, Turkish people would recover from that tragedy and build a great nation.

Police raid drugs cartels in Freetown

The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has conducted raids on suspected drug cartels at Deep Eye water, the outcast of Freetown and arrested four suspects in possession of a huge quantity of narcotic drugs which according to the Police was suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and “Kush”.

They made this disclosure while updating press men on various developments of the SLP at their George Street headquarters in Freetown on the 7th February, 2023.

2 remanded over 334 missing tile cartoons

30-year- old Mohamed Sankoh, and 42 -years -old Mohamed Alie Kamara, first and second accused persons  respectively  have been remanded for missing 334 cartoons of tiles at a construction site of Hema Trading and Construction Company.

Two remanded for land fraud

A surveyor who works for the Ministry of Lands Alcious Kamara, 35 and one Alusine Sesay, 47 of Benguema Road in Waterloo in the Freetown peninsular have been remanded in custody for allegedly obtaining money by false pretences from Ms. Marcela Jones in a transaction involving a piece of land  near No.2 River.

Exhibit presented in police-Kush dealer case

The Exhibit Clerk attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police, Detective Constable Mohamed Jalloh, has presented 36 wraps of substance believed to be the prohibited drug, commonly known as kush and other items at a Magistrate’s court president over by Principal Magistrate, Mark Ngegba.
