Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Pademba Road Court No.1 has promised to give judgement on a case of visa fraud involving an accused, Mohamed Alpha Bangura on the scheduled date of 21st March 2023.
Magistrate Ngegba said this during Monday’s hearing after informing the accused that the prosecution had closed its case.
Bah who has no legal representation opted to rely on the statement he made to the Police out of the three options given to him.
The other option could be taking up the witness box wherein he will take an oath, testify and be cross-examined by state prosecutor and will have the liberty to call up witnesses.
He can also stand in the dock and make a statement without oath-taking and can be exempted from cross-examination.
It’s alleged that on diverse dates between the 1st of February and 31st of March 2022, the accused Bangura was said to have defrauded one Fatmata Marrah at Deep Eye Water in the Western Rural District of the sum of $4, 200 United States Dollars equivalent to NLE 75,600 (seventy-five thousand six hundred New Leones with the promise that he will facilitate her travel to Canada for Job opportunities, which turned out to be false.
The accused was also alleged to have collected the sum of NLE 15, 000 (Fifteen thousand New Leones) from one Memunatu Bayoh, on the same pretext of facilitating her travelling to Canada for job opportunities, which also turned out not to be true.
