Judge recuses himself from Providence School murder trial

Justice Monfred Sesay has recused himself from the trial of Mohamed Aroun Conteh, the school boy charged with the murder of his teacher Edward Gillis Ola Johnson for what the judge described as “personal reason”. He gave no details as he read out a letter addressed to the Chief Justice on Wednesday 8th November 2023. He also discharged the 12 person jury in the trial.

MRCG reviews Sierra Leone media freedom issues

In order to strengthen democratic dialogue and accountability, consolidate peace and ensure development through professional, independent and sustainable media, based on the right to freedom of expression and of the press, the Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) has reviewed and presented media freedom issues affecting practitioners in the country.

MRCG released the October Report of its Review on the 8th November, 2023.

Sierra Leone nabs 2 “notorious” drug dealers over 1,000 wraps of Kush

Two notorious drug dealers Abu Yillah and Bawoh Kamara have been arrested in Freetown with over one thousand wraps suspected to contain the drug  Kush, according to  the Police Regional Operations Officer, Freetown East, Chief Superintendent Brima Bangura as he addressed  a press briefing at the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) a headquarters on 8th  November this year.

“The suspects, together with the exhibits, have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at East End Police’’Bangura stated.

Police seize quantity of drugs in Waterloo

An intelligence-led raid conducted by the Operations Team attached to the Waterloo Police Division has led to the seizure of quantity of drugs mostly Kush, Tramadol, and other narcotics after being abandoned by the drug dealers, peddlers, and abusers who fled upon spotting the Police.

The police also demolished several Ghettos at Kono Park in the Bassa Town community, Waterloo. The ghettos were frequented by drug dealers and peddlers.

2 Sierra Leonean journalists end monthlong media training in Egypt

Two Sierra Leonean journalists have completed a one-month media training organized by the Supreme Council for Media Regulations in Cairo, Egypt.

The Sierra Leone Ambassador to Egypt, Sadiq Sillah graced the closing and certification ceremony of the 47th training course in Cairo for sixteen Anglophone broadcasters from eight African countries.

Deceased was stabbed seven times – autopsy report

An autopsy report detailing the causes of the death of one Isha Saidu Hughes has been tendered in evidence in the ongoing murder trial of his elder brother Sulaiman Conteh has concluded that the deceased was stabbed seven times leading to her death.
