From a total of 1,730 (One thousand, seven hundred and thirty) schools that enrolled for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examinations  (BECE), a school based in Koidu named Cluny Free the Children JSS topped this year’s exams.

The school had 100% of its candidates obtaining a minimum of 5 passes inclusive of Language Arts and Mathematics, with an average grade of 1.66.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR), Brima Munda Sowa has spoken about the financial problem facing the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) that is greatly affecting service delivery to the people.

A just-released World Bank Update on Sierra Leone’s Economy has recognised the Government’s sustained momentum on its long-term structural reform agenda, with “several landmark reforms introduced during 2022 and the first half of 2023’’. 

The report cites improvement in fiscal management during the first half of 2023 but acknowledges the “need for even stronger commitment to reforms’’ in light of below-target budgetary performance.

The National President of Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers, Alpha Amadu Bah has disclosed that the union with support from Legal Aid Board was able to release 49 drivers from the Pademba Road Correctional Centre, Freetown over various offences this year.
