The Police Local Unit Commander Chief Superintendent Abu Bakarr Magona in Kambia has confirmed reports of the alleged deaths of two girls after initiation into the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) dubbed Bondo Society in Kambia District.
The LUC said that a post-mortem examination has already been conducted on the two corpses and have been handed over to the families for funeral rites.
The Chief Superintendent says the two incidents involving a 13-year-old girl in Kabailor Village, Salamatu Jalloh and a 17-year-old in Bubuya according to their investigations happened on the same day Monday 8 January this year. He said arrests have already been made and that their investigations continue.
