No Saturday cleaning ahead of lockdown

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Tamba Lamina, has indefinitely suspended the monthly Saturday cleaning exercise across the country, ahead of the planned three days lock down.

The move, according to the minister, was to enable the people to move freely to make necessary arrangements ahead of the lockdown which starts this Sunday.

The minister made this pronouncement on Thursday at the virtual government press conference held at the Ministry of Information and Communication.

Sierra Leone reduces fuel price second time in a month

The Government of Sierra Leone has announced a reduction in the pump prices of petroleum products, following the recent fall in prices of same at the world market.

The Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA) in a public notice on Wednesday stated that price for fuel is now Le7000 per liter, representing a Le1, 500 reduction from the previous price.

Njala University gets new boss

Professor Osman Sankoh has officially assumed office as the new Vice Chancellor and Principal of Njala University.

Sankoh, who is serving in the position in acting capacity, according to a statement from the university, shared with Politico, was officially handed the mantle of leadership at a low key ceremony on Thursday at the Njala University Secretariat, Njala Campus. He replaced Professor Abdullah Mansaray, who was unceremoniously removed earlier in the week.

Sierra Leone Vice President urges journalists to report accurately

Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has urged provincial journalists to report accurate information on the Coronavirus pandemic. The Vice President made the appeal whiles visiting the Southern region of the country last week.

He said the role of the journalist was crucial in the fight against the pandemic.

COVID-19: Sierra Leone Health Minister warns bike riders

As part of measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the country, Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Anthony Augustine Sandi, has warned commercial bike riders to be aware of the health status of their passengers.

"Bike riders must stop transporting people whom they don't know their health status, especially sick people, as they are one of the agents that transmit illness quickly. Anybody caught doing such should be dealt with appropriately," he said.

New teaching plan for pupils in Sierra Leone

The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has announced a new plan to teach children whiles they are at home. The plan which is expected to come into effect next week, comes amidst the early closure of schools to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The chairperson of the commission, Dr Staneala Beckley, announced the plan on Wednesday at their monthly press briefing.

CSOs call for dialogue with Vice President to resolve land-grab issues in Sierra Leone

A cross section of Civil Society Organizations working on land governance and land related issues in Sierra Leone have called for a dialogue with the Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh.

The proposed meeting, according to five Civil Society Organizations who made the demand, is to chart the way forward in resolving the overdue land dispute in Sahn Malen Chiefdom, Pujehun District, which has caused many unrests in the region.
