Sierra Leone's Supreme Court orders arrest of Lawyer

The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone has ordered the arrest of Lawyer Augustine Sorie – Sengbe Marah on the grounds of non- compliance with the court’s order.

In a unanimous decision on Wednesday taken at the Law Court’s building in Freetown, the panel of judges – four Supreme Court judges and one Court of Appeal Judge – ordered that Mr. Marah be denied access to all the courts in Sierra Leone.

NEW, Statistics Sierra Leone clash over midterm census

Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) and the elections monitoring group, National Elections Watch (NEW) are at loggerheads over the planned conduct of the Mid-term Population and Housing Census.

The census which was initially scheduled for this December was last week rescheduled to April 2021.

Sierra Leone president to sign repeal of Criminal Libel Law today

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio is expected to sign the legal instrument repealing the Criminal Libel law today, Politico has learnt.

Bio will append his signature to the bill at a ceremony scheduled to take place at State House in Freetown. The act will bring to an end decades of campaign to expunge one of the most draconian laws in the country.
