Justice Monfred Sesay of the High Court in Freetown has in a court order directed to the Inspector- General of Police, recommended Detective Police Constable (DPC) 4013 Mohamed Jusu for promotion to the level of Assistant Superintendent of Police.
Justice Sesay made the recommendation while presiding over an ongoing criminal matter last Wednesday 4 November, involving the alleged murder of one Hajah Rosalyn Pabai by three accused persons who face a two-count indictment of conspiracy to murder and murder.
DPC Jusu was in court as the 8th prosecution witness in his capacity as data analyst and forensic cyber expect from the Cyber Crime Unit of the Sierra Leone Police.
While he was called to the witness stand by State Prosecutor J. A. K. Sesay, Jusu was interrogated by the judge based on his appearance, which he described as “uncommon and smart.”
At the end of the discussion, Justice Sesay disclosed that he was recommending the witness for promotion based on his smart dress code and the level of intelligence displayed while he testified.
“I’m going to order the Management of the Police Force by way of recommendation to consider you for immediate promotion based on your level of intelligence and outstanding performance here before me,’’ he stated.
When asked by the judge how long he’d served in the police force, Jusu said he’d worked for 15 years.
At that point, the judge noted that the rank of the witness was “unfair” and undeserving.
‘‘It’s very unfair to learn that with all your 11 years of service in the force and with the wealth of experience you have displayed, you’re still at the level of a Police Constable, which is very discouraging and demotivating. You deserve to be promoted and I’m going to ensure that happens,’’ the judge stated.
He then directed that the order be served on the Inspector General of Police and the Cyber Unit of the Sierra Leone police to consider Mr. Jusu for upcoming promotion to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police.
