Senegal, Sierra Leone to start student exchange programmes

The Senegalese Minister of Education Mamadou Talla has expressed positive views on a proposed teacher/student exchange programme between his country and Sierra Leone, according to a press statement from the Information Attaché at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Dakar.

Talla was reacting to a draft proposal he had received from the visiting Sierra Leone Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Dr. Moinina Sengeh. He said his country would be pleased to receive teachers and students of the exchange programme from Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone Judiciary Trains Magistrates

The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has completed a three-day training program for all its magistrates to build their capacity and ensure efficient service delivery in their courtrooms.

SLRSA reopens training facility

For the first time since the civil war in the 90s, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, SLRSA has re-opened its training and maintenance facility to “contribute to the human capital development of the country through a state of the art mechanical training school for young people and staff of the authority.”

Grave concern over state of maternity hospital in eastern Sierra Leone

Patients admitted at the Kenema government hospital and their visitors have expressed serious concern over the offensive odor from the maternity area where health workers disposed of hospital waste placentas after pregnant delivery.

Mamie Kamara, a patient admitted at the hospital told politico that they have complained about the situation many to the hospital management but nothing has been done to “save us from this stench that is depriving us of fresh air.”

Students threaten demo over lecturers’ strike in Sierra Leone

The Students’ Union president of Fourah Bay College has written to the Chancellor of the University of Sierra Leone and president, Julius Maada Bio calling for the protracted lecturers’ strike to end.

In a thinly-veiled threat, Augustine Bona says they will embark on a “peaceful protest” if the ongoing industrial action by lecturers is not resolved.
According to the letter dated 27th January 2020, Bona writes that they will have exhausted all dialogue efforts unsuccessfully by the time of the protest.

Calls for Sierra Leone to honour TRC Report

Senegal shares energy reform with Sierra Leone delegation

The Senegal Minister of Petroleum and Gas, Sophie Gladima has met the Sierra Leone MCC delegation in Dakar during which she shared her country’s experience  in the energy reform process. Gladima highlighted the importance of energy in boosting Senegal’s mining sector and the economic development of the country as a whole.

She explained how Senegal prioritised their MCC compact in the area of energy which they hope to distribute nationwide by 2025.
