NASSIT to open offices in Moyamba, Port Loko

The Director General (DG) of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Fuad Daboh has told pressmen in Bo on the 22nd March, 2024 that his institution will soon open offices in Moyamba district in the South and Portloko district in the North Western region.

World TB Day: MSF calls for support to Sierra Leone

The Medical Co-ordinator of Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) in Sierra Leone, Dr. Kennedy Uadiale, has in commemoration of 2024 World Tuberculosis (TB) day, called on other partners to support Sierra Leone in the treatment.

24th March every year is world TB day and the theme for this year is “Yes! We can end TB.”

MSF is in collaboration with the Ministry of health ministry providing treatment and management of TB in the northern district and regional headquarters of the country. 

More dams underway to address Freetown's water problem - Guma boss

The Director General of the Guma Valley Water Company, Maada S. Kpenge has said they would need to build ten new dams within fifteen years, but within five years, they would need to have four, highlighting one dam at Hamilton, two at Regent, and another one at Congo.

Kpenge made this disclosure at government’s weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 19th of March this year.

Police intercept trafficking victims in northern Sierra Leone

The Operations Team of the Sierra Leone Police, Kabala Divisional Headquarters, acting within the mandate of the National Task Force on Human Trafficking, has intercepted 57 persons about to be trafficked to Mali.

The 57 individuals include 26 female adults, 14 male children, and 17 female children on the 16th of March, 2024.

A public notice issued by the National Task Force on Human Trafficking on the 18th of March 2024 indicated that the children are between the ages of 2 months to 15 years.

Police demolish Ojeh shrine in Bo

Police in the southern region have raided an Ojeh shrine and marijuana joints in Bo town. The operation was headed by the Assistant Inspector General of police in the region, Brima Kanneh.

Speaking to Politico, the police media officer, south, said they raided places they had identified as hotspots for the sale of kush and other harmful drugs in Bo. Constable Alhaji Osman Mansaray said during the raids they found exhibits at the Ojeh shrine and other places where marijuana is also sold.

Court martial: WhatsApp audio played in court

A Whatsapp audio sent by the ninth accused, Idrissa Kallon played in court, revealed the accused said they would be attacking the lodge of President Julius Madda Bio on the night of 25th November 2023.

In the ongoing court martial trying 27 soldiers in connection to the November 26 failed coup, it was revealed that Kallon was communicating with his colleague soldier, Staff Sergeant Kellie Marah attached to the Forces Intelligence Security Unit (FISU).
