Case of the murder of Sierra Leone's former Army Chief resumes

The trial for the murdered Rtd. Army Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Samuel Omar Williams has commenced at the High Court in Freetown. The murder case resumed on Thursday 15th July, 2021.
The former CDS was said to have been gunned down on Thursday 22nd December 2016 at his residence at Devil Hole community, not too far from Waterloo, in the Western Rural District of Sierra Leone.
Court denies Sierra Leone opposition MP bail over alleged unlawful arms possession

Member of Parliament for constituency 129, Emmanuel Saidu Conteh has been refused bail by Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Court No. 1 in Freetown.
Conteh was in court on Tuesday 14 July 2021together with Nabieu Issa Bangura, Michael Alpha and Sheriff Jalloh on allegations of unlawful possession of firearms. They are charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and illegal importation of arms and ammunition. The said arms and ammunition were allegedly discovered at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay, according to the Police.
Gambian ex-Minister sentenced to death

The High Court in Gambia’s capital Banjul has sentenced to death by hanging Yankuba Touray, a former minister of Agriculture under the ex-President Yahya Jammeh’s regime. Touray is a former member of the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council (AFPRC) that ruled Gambia for two years after they overthrew the then government of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara in 1994.

A book titled ‘Operation Khukri: the untold story of Indian Army's bravest peacekeeping mission abroad’ narrating the experience of an Indian author who happens to be the commander of a detachment of 233 soldiers, surrounded by rebel forces during a United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Sierra Leone, has been officially launched in India. The event took place yesterday 15 July 2021.
