Gov’t mobile clinic kicks off at York

The first-ever mobile health clinic to be initiated by a government in Sierra Leone had its official maiden port of call in the two Peninsula settlements of York and Tombo on Monday 7th March 2021.  

President Julius Maada Bio led the formal launching first in York, an event attended by the local council and community heads, the Chinese Ambassador, senior government and health officials, and residents of York. Similar protocols were reciprocated in the fishing community of Tombo.

Speeding bus causes damage at Goderich Street

A blue public transportation bus plying between Calaba Town and Goderich Street, Freetown, on Monday 7th March 2022 reportedly lost control due to what sources suspected was a brake failure, leaving several people injured, and a shop, cars and tricycles damaged.

Mines committee engages Marampa Mines

As part of their monitoring function, the Parliamentary Committee on Mines and Mineral Resources on Saturday 5th March 2022 engaged the management of Marampa Mines Limited at the company's site in Port Loko district.

Speaking at the engagement, the Parliamentary Chairman of the Mines and Mineral Committee, Saa Emerson Lamina said their engagement was in conformity with their constitutional mandate and the importance of mining and economic growth.

Planning Minister calls for inclusive society

The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Francis Kai-Kai has urged development actors to support building more equitable and inclusive societies. He made the statement during the World Fragility Forum 2022 held via zoom.

Minister Kai-Kai said in order to overcome fragility, all development actors should support the building of more equitable and inclusive societies with policy options to deliver visible change, using strong solidarity to achieve credibility and trust in governance. 

206,690 pupils sets for WASSCE

Two hundred and six thousand, six hundred and ninety (206,690) pupils across Sierra Leone have registered to take the 2022 WASSCE Exams, according to the minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) citing the  West Africa Examination’s portal.

Dr. David Moinina  Sengeh in his Facebook post noted that within the Free Quality School Education (FQSE), every child in public school can attempt the exams at no cost to their parents but at a cost of over 5 million dollars to the government of Sierra Leone.

CSOs want Auditor General reinstated

Budget Advocacy Network (BAN), an advocacy organization has joined other groups in calling on the government of Sierra Leone to reinstate the suspended Auditor General, Lara Tailor Pearce and one of her Deputies, Tamba Momoh.

In a statement published on the 9th of March 2022, the advocacy group reaffirmed its commitment to continue to call for the reinstatement of the Auditor-General and her deputy.
