The Bo District and City Councils have organized two days community engagement for COVID-19 vaccination at the Bo District Council hall, Falaba Section in Bo. The project according to officials is supported by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
Speaking at the engagement, Efrida Bockarie, Development Planning Officer for the Bo District council said that they want to expedite coronavirus vaccination in Bo district, which is why she said they invited the Councilors, Paramount Chiefs, women and religious leaders because their people listen to them.
She said the vaccines were available in the country and administered at no costs to the people. She appealed to the participants to take the message home.
Eric Borbor Jumu, Head of Mobilization, Bo DiCOVERC explained the importance of being vaccinated. He stated that children who are 12 years and above must be vaccinated, saying that there are still laws on Covid-19 in the country.
He said four different types of vaccines are in the country; Astrazeneca, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Sinopharm and are all available for those who are yet to be vaccinated.
He said vaccination is compulsory, noting that the laws will be fully implemented.
Making statement at the engagement, Joseph Munda Bindi Chairman for Bo District Council said that Coronavirus is a serious pandemic affecting the world.
He added that many countries have vaccinated their citizens thus it is very important that Sierra Leoneans too accept to be vaccinated as it is the ultimate solution to the pandemic that continues to threaten the world.
Abdulai Conteh from DHMT/ Bo DiCOVERC explained that the vaccines are of high quality and that they have embarked on education on the need for vaccination within the Bo district.
Conteh said that as professionals, they will continue to do what is expected of them and encourage the people of Bo to show up at the vaccination centers.
Rev. Emmanuel S. Farma representing inter religious council said that as religious leaders they have a role to play in the vaccination exercise. He noted that they will inform their membership and talk about the vaccination at their religious places.
Most of the participants said their people were afraid to be vaccinated because of the plenty misconceptions about COVID-19 vaccination in the country. They promised to take the message to their people and encouraged them to come forward to be vaccinated.
