New city at Burreh Town

Five hundred Sierra Leoneans who won the state Land Raffle in May of this year have yesterday 15th August 2022 been handed their plots of land and documents at a proposed new city around Burreh Town and Kent Village in the Western Area Rural district.

Each of the winners including journalists, medical practitioners, civil servants, security personnel and fire fighters received two town lots for the construction of dwelling houses under the condition of lease for a period of three years subject to renewal.

BRAC boosts Sierra Leone  farmers with cassava processing machine

A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Sierra Leone, BRAC has boosted 12 farmers of Bo, Pujehun, Kenema and Kailahun Districts with cassava processing machines.

With funding from the European Union, BRAC supported the local entrepreneurs with the processing equipment that is helping them to produce large quantities of cassava flowers in a cost-effective manner.

SALPOST outlines new services

The Managing Director  of  Sierra Leone Postal Service (SALPOST) Briama Katta has said that the institution now offers other services including  passport facilitation  in all regional headquarter towns where the institutions in present.

Speaking yesterday Katta during the weekly government press briefing in Freetown he explained that forms for passports can now be accessed at the different SALPOST offices across the country.

Rain wreaks more havoc in Sierra Leone

An analysis by the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency has revealed that the rainfall recorded in the month of August 2022 surpassed the average rainfall recorded in other months of August for the last five years in the country.

“It is observed that August recorded the highest amount of rainfall followed by July, September, June, and May for the past five years. The month of August 2022 is observed to have recorded the highest rainfall for the past five years followed by 2020, 2019, 2021 and 2018,” it reads in part.

Court refuses to release opposition MP on bail

MP denies attacking journalist

In response to a press statement by the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) condemning an alleged attack on a journalist in Kono by the Coalition for Change (C4C) Party leader in Parliament, Member of Parliament Sahr Emerson Lamina, the MP has denied the allegation, saying that media body did not get the story right.  

“Arata” remanded for robbery

Magistrate Isata Sellu-Tucker of Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown has remanded Alicious Deen Tarawalie alias “Arata” for allegedly robbing Carlton Bull of a Samsung J4+ android mobile phone valued two million five hundred thousand Leones (OLe 2,500,000). 

Yesterday September 12, Tarawallie appeared before the court on one count charge of Robbery with Aggravation.

Court record says Tarawallie on Thursday 1st September 2022 at Beach Road, Lumley, Freetown, being armed with a knife, robbed Bull, the complainant.
