A resident businesswoman at Dama Road in Kenema, Cynthia Yambasu has expressed frustration over alleged neglect by the Police following an accident in July which she claimed was caused by a Police Officer, Mohamed Sesay, attached to the Kenema Traffic Division.
Yambassu, angrily explained to Politico that on the 26th July 2022 after selling her goods, she boarded a motorbike by Tumber Street in Kenema, and that officer, Sesay, commonly known as “Rojo” chased the motorbike from Tumber Street to Dama Road on the grounds that the rider was without a license.
She narrated how as the officer chased the bike, she pleaded with the rider to drop her but he refused, adding that the ensuing accident saw her suffer a broken clavicle (collar bone) and an injured leg.
She maintained that it was a man who took her to the hospital for an x-ray examination.
She alleged that the officer in question did not attend to her nor show any interest in her health condition and it was the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Amara Moijueh, that gave her the sum of two hundred and fifty Old Leones 250,000 for her hospital bills.
She added that she went to do another x-ray in Freetown and went back to Kenema with the result and underwent arm surgery.
According to the woman, no interest was shown by officer Sesay from July until Monday 26th September when she took the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Board in Kenema and the Human Rights Commission for Sierra Leone before she was issued a medical report and entry of the matter was done.
The Senior Outreach Officer for the Board, Vandi Bawoh, confirmed to Politico that he received a report of such nature and promised to follow up on the matter together with senior officers. a
However, the new current District Traffic Officer in Kenema ASP Peter Ensah Ngunyah, requested for the motorbike but was told by his officers that his predecessor, Daddy Bockarie, had handed the bike over to the Bike Riders Union President who happens to be the owner of the motorbike.
