CSO’s stress women’s consent on extractives in Sierra Leone

With support from WOMIN (African Women Unite against Destructive Resource Extraction), the Women on Mining and Extractives (WoME) together with Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD) has launched a study report on community consent rights and the rights to say no to some projects that may affect particularly the livelihood of women in their various communities across Sierra Leone.

Bike Riders & Triad sign housing scheme agreement

The Bike Riders Union and Triad Engineering Company have signed an agreement for the start of a ‘Bike Riders Investment Scheme’ that would provide housing units for members of the Union. The event was held at the John James Complex in Eastern Freetown, on Saturday 12th November, 2022.

No Tangains this year

The annual Tangains Festival held at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown will not take place this year, according to the organizers of the event.

One of the organizers, Tutie Haffner of  Freetong Players Group told Politico that since the stadium is closed to the public because of its renovation project, it’s been difficult to find a suitable place to organize this year’s event.

Njala University concludes orientation for over 8,000 undergrads

Njala University has on Friday 11th November 2022 concluded a two-day orientation for over 8,000 freshmen  admitted to the University's various programmes for the 2022/2023 academic year.

The sessions began on Thursday 10th November 2022, at Njala Campus' University Auditorium under the distinguished patronage of Professor Alieu Mohamed Bah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Njala Campus.

NP goes to Gbalamuya

The petroleum giant, NP, has extended its operations to the Sierra Leone-Guinea frontier with the opening of a branch Gas Station at Gbalamuya.

The formal ceremony took place on Friday 11th November.

Chairman of the Bike Riders at Gbalumuya, Alusine Bangura noted that prior to the opening of the new NP fuel station in the township; they were faced with serious constraints in accessing fuel for their bikes.

Action Aid calls for Sierra Leone debt cancellation

The Executive Director of Action Aid in Sierra Leone, Foday Bassie Swarray, has called on the international community to cancel Sierra Leone’s debts for the country to be able to invest in programmes that will enable it to adapt to the effect of climate change.

The Executive director of Action Aid International said this at the opening ceremony of the two day conference on climate change with various stakeholders that include international partners at the Family Kingdom Resort in Freetown on Thursday 10th November, 2022.

Mano River Union gets new Secretary General

The outgoing Secretary- General of the Mano River Union (MRU), Madam Medina A. Wesseh has handed over the Secretariat’s documents to her successor, Maria G. Harrison.
