Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown has remanded Ibrahim Samura, a student and Sales Man, for allegedly stealing from his employer , Mohamed Muctarr Jalloh, the sum of OLe 113,420,000 (one hundred and thirteen million four hundred and twenty thousand Leones).
Samura, 29, is before the court for a count of Larceny by Servant contrary to section 17(1) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The prosecution alleged that the accused on Thursday 1st September 2022 at Beyaar Drug Store Investment at No. 1B Peninsula Road, Goderich Freetown, being a sales man employed by Jalloh, the complainant, did steal the said amount.
On November 17, Jalloh testified that he knew the accused as a person who was under his employ as a salesman.
Jalloh recalled the 1st September 2022 at around 5 p.m. receiving a call from his wife informing him about the accused not to be found around the shop.
Upon arrival at the place, he said they told him that the accused was not around and that he met the key with another person he called Edward. He said he tried to call the accused's phone, but it was switched off.
At this point, he said he entered the premise and that OLe 23,615,000 (twenty-three million six hundred and fifteen thousand Leones) that was meant for money transfer for a client was missing. He added that he went to his own personal drawer and found out that OLe 52,000,000 (fifty-two million Leones) was also missing.
The complainant revealed that he had CCTV camera at the shop and that when he put it on he saw the accused with the money going out of the shop.
In tracing his whereabouts, the complainant said he went to where the accused was doing a part time job at night at Wilberforce but they told him that he had quit the job since July. He said the accused was also not at his personal residence at New England Ville, Freetown.
He said he further went to his family to explain to them about the issue and that at around 8 p.m. on that same day he received a call from the accused and was able to recover OLe 29,000,000 (twenty-nine million Leones) from his wife, adding the following day he went to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to make a report.
The matter was adjourned to the 24 November 2022 for cross- examination.
