The Speaker of Parliament Chernor Abass Bundu has granted permission to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to commemorate this year’s International Children’s Day event in Parliament.
The request was granted on the 16th November 2022, whilst the celebration will take place around the precincts Parliament this Monday 21st November 2022, later in the day.
UNICEF’s Representative Dr. Suleiman Braimah said they want to use Parliament to celebrate a symbolic event.
He noted that the choice of using the House to commemorate the day is as a result of Parliament’s good performance, highlighting the enactment of good laws especially those that are related to children.
Braimah commended Parliament’s leadership and Members for making good laws and for ratifying international conventions in a timely manner.
The Representative assured the Speaker of UNICEF’s readiness to support the institution with any technical assistance in ensuring that Parliament gets best practices in the execution of its duty.
The Speaker of Parliament Chernor Abass Bundu whilst responding to Braimah accepted the offer of technical assistance and support, noting that they will request when deemed necessary.
