MRCG trains journalists on safety

In order to ensure that journalists report issues effectively without having injuries whilst on the field, the Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) has trained media practitioners on safety policies and practices in Media Houses in the country ahead of the multitier elections.

The event was held in Freetown on the 19th May, 2023.

Sierra Leone revenue authority to tax digital services

Sierra Leone’s National Revenue Authority (NRA) is set to implement the law on taxation of digital services including Nigeria’s DSTV as legislated in the 2022 Finance Act according to Dr Philip Michael Kargbo, Director of Monitoring, Research and Planning NRA.

Speaking at a training organized by Budget Advocacy Network (BAN) on Public Financial Management for journalists, Kargbo said in as much as the law has been legislated, the implementation has been a challenge due to lack of the required capacity and data.

640 Sierra Leoneans for Hajj 2023

Out of a total of 1,200 (one thousand, two hundred) slots allocated to the Government of Sierra Leone for this year’s Hajj, only 640 (six hundred and forty) which is about 65% of the quota of intending pilgrims are set to attend Hajj in the Holy land of Mecca.

The aforementioned number of intending pilgrims includes those without fault that are paying for themselves, Government assistance or scholarships, and the 129 (one hundred and twenty-nine) pilgrims that did not attend last year’s Hajj due to unforeseen circumstances.

Sierra Leone political party leaders to make Peace Pledge

Leaders of Political Parties taking part in the 24th June Elections are to make a Pledge of Peace, a week before polling, according to the Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion.

Madam Hawa Samai told a National Security Sector Coordinating Group meeting in Makeni that the prepared pledge would see the politicians committing themselves to accept the results of the elections.
