Man remanded for alleged scholarship scam

One Abdulai Turay, a resident of Kandeh town in Bo city has been remanded in custody for allegedly collecting money from eight people on diverse dates on the pretext of facilitating their postgraduate scholarship programmes at Njala University in Freetown and abroad.

The 29 year old was in court on Monday 22nd May 2023 to answer to 13 counts of impersonation and collecting money by false pretences.

NCD engages youths, PWDS on voter education

The National Commission for Democracy (NCD) has engaged first-time voter’s youths, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and women on voter education and violence prevention in the forthcoming multi-tier elections in Sierra Leon slated for June 24 this year.

The programme was held at the Albertson Hotel in Kenema and the Olive’s Garden in BO respectively.

President Bio launches 3 road projects

President Julius Maada Bio, has on the 19th of May this year launched the Reconstruction of the Kabala - Krubola - Kono Road Project (261km).

The event was held in Dogolia Town, Koinadugu District, and North of Sierra Leone. It was graced with fanfare by stakeholders, descendants and residents of Koinadugu and Falaba districts.

Sierra Leone security sector gets radio station

A Radio Station in Freetown that is to be managed by Sierra Leone’s Security Sector has started test transmission on FM 91.1.  The station will help update its personnel and the general public on events within the country.

Inspector- General of the Sierra Leone Police, William Fayia Sellu told a high ranking security sector meeting in Makeni last week that the station will have police personnel working there, but clarified that it is a security sector radio and not the sole property of the police.

Sierra Leone to tackle neglected diseases

Not for profit organization Hellen Keller International has launched a sustainability plan to tackle neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Sierra Leone.

According to its Chief Programme Officer Shawn Baker the effort is to ensure that NTDs are controlled and eliminated in the country and that care is given to those whose situation has worsened. 

Society cannot develop without creativity – Dr Spencer

Dr. Julius Spencer has encouraged students of the Faculty of Media and Information Studies of Fourah Bay College (FBC) to enhance their creative minds in a bid to remain relevant to their societies, saying that a society cannot move forward without creative people.

He was speaking during his public lecture at the FBC Multi-Purpose Hall on Friday 19th May 2023, titled “National Development through Neglect of the Arts and Culture in Sierra Leone.”

PCMP elections in 5 districts

Elections for district paramount Chief Members of Parliament have taken place in five districts last Saturday.

A statement by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) Saturday evening, confirmed that polling took place in Bombali, Kambia, Bonthe, Falaba and Pujehun., and that with the exception of two polling stations , 126 other stations opened on the stipulated 7am time.
