34-year-old accused Herbalist, Ibrahim M. Kaloko, has appeared before Magistrate Mark Ngegba at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 over the killing of Fourah Bay College (FBC) lecturer, Kabba Santigie Bangura, with one count of murder levied against him.
The charge sheet states that on Monday 6th March 2023, Kaloko allegedly murdered Bangura at Shebora Town in Waterloo.
The Wife of the deceased, Rosaline Ya Alimamy Bangura, who is the first prosecution witness (PW1), was in court but could not testify telling prosecutors she was not in a good state of mind.
The widow of the slain lecturer, who said they have four kids together, burst into tears as she was accompanied out of the courtroom.
An earlier press release from the Waterloo Police Division stated that an unidentified body was discovered at the shrine of the herbalist on 16 April this year. It also confirmed that a group of people from Freetown identified the body as that of the lecturer from the Geography/Geology department at FBC.
The discovery of Kaloko’s remains happened 40 days after he went missing.
Some of the personal belongings of the lecturer, including his trousers and T-shirt were also found in the shrine.
A Statement dated 17th April from the University of Sierra Leone Administration, of which FBC is one of the constituent colleges, said it was appalled at the sad news about the discovery of the body of the lecturer.
The statement further expressed the administration’s strong and unequivocal condemnation of his killing and urged for a speedy investigation.
Cyber Unit of the same Waterloo Police Station had arrested two men in connection with the mysterious disappearance of the lecturer.
