STOP SpillOver conducts simulation exercise on zoonotic diseases

One of the Partners of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, through the  STOP Spillover Project has ended a three-day simulation exercise on the transmission of Zoonotic diseases  that comes from animals to human.

The exercise was conducted in two communities in Guala and Dodo townships in Dodo Chiefdom from the 6th to 8th March 2024.

The engagement captured participants such as town chiefs, Community Health Workers, women’s leaders, youth, Community Health Aids, bike riders among others.

NGC Deputy Secretary ‘frustrated’ over SLPP alliance

The Deputy Secretary General of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party, Alhaji K. Tarawallie popularly called ‘Laj-K’ has expressed frustration over the alliance formed with the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in the June 24th multi-tier elections in the country. 

In an audio circulated on social media Laj-K, spoke about the challenges faced by NGC within the current alliance framework and stressed the need for decisive and unified action, moving forward.

Headteachers concerned over delays in school subsidies

 Ninety-three percent of Head Teachers have expressed concerns over delays in the ‘timely’ arrival of school subsidies, according to research recently published by the National Partnership for Social Accountability (NPSA) on the State of Education in Sierra Leone 2023.

The report which was launched at the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School (MBSSE) on 1st March this year, notes that district-specific figures highlighted the low on-time transfer of subsidies for  Bonthe, Tonkoili, and Bo districts.

Passport applications to start in the provinces

Speaking about the decentralization of the application process regarding Sierra Leone’s Passport, the Chief Immigration Officer, Alusine Kanneh has said application would be done in the provinces, naming Bo, Kenema, and Makeni as venues for such an exercise.

Kanneh made this disclosure at the government's weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Freetown on the 5th of March this year. 

Court to decide APC Sheriff’s bail

Justice Adrian Fisher, presiding over a criminal trial of Alpha Sheriff alias ‘APC Sheriff’  and Alhaji Saidu Fofanah as first and second accused respectively, for the alleged operation of a private security company  without license and two other related offences, has promised to rule on the bail application next Tuesday 12th March this year.

One Alhaji Dauda has told a magistrate in Freetown that Joseph Ngegba who introduced himself as a director in the ministry of finance told him, while destroying the gate to his property that he (Joseph Ngegba) was an integral part of the current government of Sierra Leone and he can do as he likes with no consequences.
