MAYOR KEMOKAI NOW BEGINS TO TALK ABOUT FREETOWN’S GRAVEYARDS

Last week Mayor Kemokai decided to speak up at last about the wanton desecration of Freetown’s cemeteries by people that have made no secret of the habit of stealing from the dead and buried. Reports of this macabre graveyard looting are all over social media. That’s why we are still trying to understand why a Mayor who spends a lot of time posting her pictures and that of some cosmetic project she claims she’s been doing in the last SIX years was only able to make a statement on the issue just last week.

We read the press release only to see her own drift because there is nobody living in Freetown who doesn’t know about this continuous rape of our cemeteries and the utter neglect with which the FCC has treated this issue.

Red Mayor Herbert George –Williams spent big money trying to stop encroachment on cemeteries to build homes and by starting a fencing project. In the end he turned his attention to Morgan Heritage and the project collapsed with his political ambition.

A group of young people calling themselves FRIENDS of the Dead then took up residence in our cemeteries in the full knowledge of the FCC.

It is common now for people burying family members to smash expensive coffins once lowered into the earth to make it unattractive to thieves who are always around for such burials pretending to be mourners.

So like her TREE PLANTING social media joke, Mayor Kemokai issued this press release as an attempt to create the impression she is finally moving against people desecrating our cemeteries. We are not amused.

We will be back with this issue in a few weeks to demonstrate that the press release meant nothing.

SIERRA LEONE BLAMED FOR KUSH RAMPAGE IN THE GAMBIA

We still don’t understand why some Sierra Leoneans on social media went into overdrive over a TV report in The Gambia, in which a Sierra Leonean was accused of selling KUSH in that country. What is really strange about that?

The Gambia should simply keep quiet and fight their own  KUSH menace. We are busy doing ours here. This is just an excuse to turn on ordinary Sierra Leoneans in that country to further harass and steal from them. One Sierra Leonean caught in a criminal activity in a foreign country does not translate into all of us being involved. We are not even sure a link exists between the KUSH the guy was accused of pushing and our own local KUSH people, in other words, was the KUSH smuggled from Sierra Leone or was the guy just a pusher man of what already exists in The Gambia?

We hold no brief for Sierra Leoneans who travel to other countries to live and work and then decide to go into crimes. The laws of that country should hold them accountable. But to somehow create the impression that KUSH was a Sierra Leonean problem in this subregion is a very stupid thing to do and we should be quick to tell Gambians to get real and stop blaming others for their home grown troubles.

What we have witnessed is that even when Sierra Leone is unjustifiably attacked from outside, we quickly turn the issue into a mighty political football in the grossly mistaken belief that votes can be won there. No way! Can’t we do anything in this country without thinking about politics?

NGC ON THE ROAD TO FINAL DISINTEGRATION

There were unfortunate scenes at the offices of what is left of the NGC political party. This was the party formed by KKY and those who hated Maada Bio’s leadership of the Green Movement. NGC caused enormous damage to the Red Movement especially in Kambia district and helped get them out of office in 2018 but NGC failed in their overall ambition to take State House or even parliament.

Today the NGC is obviously a pale shadow of its former self. Their Charismatic leader KKY has joined Principals government and renewed his membership of the Green Movement. The NGC is now trying to hang on to the alliance document they signed with the Green Movement on the eve of the 2023 elections. They are complaining about jobs for their members and want to withdraw from the alliance. To all intents and purposes they have already left the alliance considering the way they are approaching issues right now.

Besides, they are not even a united lot in this bid to formally withdraw from the alliance. That’s why the police went in to save NGC from themselves. They should never have allowed this to happen.

The NGC should know that with KKY gone, they are now just like one of those other parties that lost their charismatic leaders and are now gasping for breath. Think about the UNPP or Karefa Smart and the PDP of Thaimu Bangura.
