Center for Accountability and Rule of Law, CARL yesterday presented 30 self-powered hand cranked radio sets from Ears To Our World, a US-based group that distributes self-powered radios to schools and communities. Executive Director for CARL, Ibrahim Tommy, said the donation was made through African Community Internship Placement Programme West Africa, a Netherlands-based organisation that promotes international technology-focused approach to human rights programming. ACIPP contacted Ears To Our World on behalf of CARL. It also covered costs for the shipment of the consignment to Sierra Leone. He said that in a country where electricity remained a major challenge, particularly in rural communities, it was exciting to think of ways the radios could enhance access to information in the communities they work. “These radios will be distributed to the 30 monitors in the 15 communities across the country to enhance their work,” he said, adding that CARL was very grateful to ACIPP for the gesture and promising that the radios would surely meet the beneficiaries. Executive Director of ACIPP West Africa, Simon Tsike-Sossah, said there was a lot of power in information and that he was very delighted for the potential beneficiaries.
