Leone Rock premier League hits top gear

As the Leone Rock Premier League reaches its climax, teams are bracing up for survival against relegation while some are eyeing the coveted trophy. The competition is very intense as it is still unclear as to who exactly will lift the giant trophy come the end of the current league season. However as per the league table defending champions, Bo Rangers and former league winners FC Kallon are running a two- horse race for the champions title.

Leone Rock premier League week 21 highlights

A total of 314 goals have already been scored by 117 players in 183 matches in the ongoing Leone Rock Premier League.

Mohamed Bangura from this year’s debutant Bhantal Football Club and Sulaiman S. Kargbo of East End Lions have all so far emerged as the leading goal scorers with 9 goals each, followed by Ibrahim Kargbo of Wusum Stars with 7 goals. 

Top Sierra Leone football coach dies in a road accident en route to honouring a fixture

Sierra Leone’s football family was plunged into deep shock and grief following a fatal road accident involving a bus carrying players of Premier League side Ports Authority which claimed the lives of Coach Lamin Bangura, the bus driver and his mate. Several other players including the goalkeeper were said to have been seriously injured and are in a critical condition in hospital. Other players including Musa ‘Tombo’ Noah Kamara who was reportedly at the back of the bus were unhurt.

Kahunla appeals on Lions’ ruling

In a letter addressed to the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), dated and submitted on the 28th February, 2024, the management of Kahunla Rangers informed that they do not countenance the ruling dated 27th February, 2024 in the matter between East End Lions FC and Kahunla Rangers FC with respect to a protest written by Lions claiming that Kahunla fielded an ineligible player (James Harding) against them in the match played on the 23rd December 2024 at the Kenema City Field.

Diamond Stars criticize Coach Tito’s resignation

Management of Diamond Stars Football Club has criticized the manner of Coach Tito Cole's resignation saying it was disrespectful and lacked regard for the rules of the game.

In a press statement issued by the club on the 5th March, 2024, it informed supporters and fans that the club has received a resignation letter from Coach Tito Cole. It noted that the Coach is under contract for Diamond Stars for three seasons, and that his contract will expire in 2025.

Sports Minister eyes World Cup qualification for Sierra Leone

Minister of Sports, Augusta James Teima says in the next five years Sierra Leone will qualify for football’s greatest tournament- the World Cup.

Teima made this statement at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s Press Conference held at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Freetown on 27th February, 2024.

"Finance for sport is not given on time, but we have launched the Sports Development Fund that would help us generate funds for sport activities," the Minister maintained.
