Save The Children re-strategizes against Ebola

Save The Children Sierra Leone, a frontline Non-Governmental Organization in the fight against Ebola, is set to introduce radio
programmes as a step-up in the fight against the epidemic presently ravaging the country.
Its Community Health Manager at the Kerry Town treatment centre, operated by the NGO, Sembia Johnson, said they would be using community radio stations to update and sensitize citizens about the operations of the centre.
Kerry Town is situated in the Western Rural District.

Politico gets new editor

Politico newspaper has a new editor. Kemo Cham was born in Sierra Leone and raised in both Gambia and Sierra Leone. He takes over the mantle from Umaru Fofana who now concentrates on running FreeMedia Group (FMG), the company that owns the paper and of which he is the Chief Executive Officer. His column, Think Tank, will however continue.

FMG which secured a licence to operate a radio station in 2013 is bracing itself up to operate 705 Gem FM.

MP flouts Ebola bye-laws

Pujehun district may have declared itself Ebola-free but the authorities are considering a hard line approach against the Member of Parliament for Constituency 89 in the district for flouting nationwide bye-laws aimed at stopping the spread of the deadly virus.
The body coordinating the local Ebola response summoned the MP, Dickson Momoh Rogers, to answer to allegations that he violated the bye-laws by organising a public gathering in his constituency over the Christmas period.

Minister warns against complacency in Pujehun

Local Government Minister Diana Konomanie last week commended the people of Pujehun after the district emerged the first in the country to record zero new Ebola infection in 42 days. But she also warned against complacency.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) regulations, a country can only be declared free of an Ebola outbreak after 42 days without a new case. With 31 confirmed cases, Pujehun ranks 13 among the 14 districts in the country. It recorded its last case on November 26.
