Politico newspaper has a new editor. Kemo Cham was born in Sierra Leone and raised in both Gambia and Sierra Leone. He takes over the mantle from Umaru Fofana who now concentrates on running FreeMedia Group (FMG), the company that owns the paper and of which he is the Chief Executive Officer. His column, Think Tank, will however continue.
FMG which secured a licence to operate a radio station in 2013 is bracing itself up to operate 705 Gem FM.
Cham comes with a wealth of experience having edited Gambia’s leading newspaper, Daily Observer and has been a correspondent for the Kenya-based Nation Media Group for five years.
“I look forward to this challenge to improve on a newspaper that is already highly respected in and out of Sierra Leone”, Cham said.
His appointment comes as the newspaper begins the New Year with a third weekly edition (Midweek Politico) which will come out on Wednesdays. This comes amid pressure from readers but also in consideration of the need to report on and analyse issues a lot more regularly and passionately.
