Supreme Court strikes out case against Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone

The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone has struck out a case filed by Lawyer Sorie Sengbe Marrah requesting the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) to publish certified and verified district level results of the June 2023 multitier elections.

This was indicated in a letter from the Supreme Court’s registry addressed to the plaintiff, Marrah, dated Wednesday 8th November 2023.

President Bio urges deeper cooperation at Saudi summit

At the Saudi-Africa Summit in Riyadh, President Julius Maada Bio has called for more political cooperation to stimulate economic development and investment.

He said the summit  held on Friday 19th November will enhance ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sierra Leone, and the African continent as a whole. 

Sierra Leone police equipped with forensic machine

In order to enhance the capability of the Police to  investigate crime, the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone has donated forensic equipment to the law enforcement institution. This was disclosed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Brima Kamara at a Press Conference in Freetown last week.

“We had asked the Chinese government through the Chinese Embassy to have helped us with forensic equipment, and I want to report that the equipment has been brought in Sierra Leone”, he confirmed.

MPs debate commodity taxes in Sierra Leone

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has passed into law the Finance Act of 2024, a move that was preceded by Legislators expressing divergent views on the Bill especially with regards to commodity taxes.

The House was totally divided, with some stressing that the increase in taxes will cause suffering on the citizens, as prices of commodities will shoot up. Others were of the opinion that monies generated from these taxes will help the government generate revenue, which will help in achieving its 'Feed Salone' agenda.

Low voter turnout in Nigeria's off-circle elections

SALWACO to boost Mambolo, Rokupr water supply

Sierra Leone spent over $ 985 million on power in 15 years – new reports says

In the last 15 years, successive Governments have spent over nine hundred and eighty-five million United States Dollars on electricity generated by Turkish  Karpowership, an amount which according to Budget Advocacy Network’s (BAN) National Coordinator Abubakarr Kamara,  is enough for the country to own its own power –supply vessel .

He said this in Volume one of a video documentary series titled ‘Tragedies of Politics’.
