Makoloh-Mabang Bridge Road to be ready in 14 months

Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has commissioned the construction of the Makoloh-Mabang Bridge Road which is expected to be completed in fourteen months.

The road’s construction was formally launched on 15th November 2023, though actual work had commenced on the 1st November this year, and to end on the 1st January 2025.

CARL engages stakeholders on Criminal Procedure Bill

The Centre for Accountability and the Rule of Law (CARL) and the Justice Sector Coordination Office (JSCO) have held a two-day stakeholders retreat with Members of Parliament (MPs) of the Legislative Committee and other MPs on the Draft Criminal Procedure Bill, 2023.

The two-day retreat was held at the Sierra Palms Hotel in Freetown on the 14th-15th of November 2023.

PPRC capacitates parties on intra-dispute resolution mechanisms

The Political Parties Regulatory Commission (PPRC) has led an intra-party validation exercise to help parties resolve their internal challenges.

The two-day event from 14th to 15th November was held at the Brookfields Hotel in Freetown where PPRC Chairman, Abdulai Masiambay Bangura expressed satisfaction at the turnout.

 “We want Political Parties to be using the guide to help them resolve their internal problems as they come,” he said.

Man jailed five years for robbery

Justice Monfred Sesay has sentenced one Alpha Kamara to five years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy and robbery. He changed his plea after the state amended the indictment. He was discharged on the count of conspiracy on Wednesday 15th November, 2023.

The 33 year old was indicted for stealing properties valued at NLe 8,496 (Eight thousand four hundred and ninety-six new Leones)

Accused denies police statement in court

29 year old accused, Ishmael Kabbia, has said in a Magistrate Court in Freetown that what he said in his statement to the Police was not what was recorded.

The accused businessman said this during cross examination by Police Prosecutor, Inspector Tamba AP Sellu at the Pademba Road Court No.1 on Tuesday 14th November 2023.

Responding to question as to why he then signed the statement, Kabia said, “I was tutored to sign the statement” and added, “One of the police officers is the complainant’s uncle.”

Sierra Leone imposes 10% tax on gambling

In order to implement the tax policy and revenue administration measures articulated in the Medium Term Revenue Strategy (MTRS), the Government is set to impose an excise tax on gambling and casino services at a rate of 10 percent of net betting revenue.

The Finance Minister, Mohamed Fantamadi Bangura was presenting the 2024 Financial Year (FY2024) in Parliament on 10th of November, 2023.
